On Friday, June 22, 2012, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam awarded Oak Ridge, TN, an $800,000 grant to upgrade the Jackson Square parking lot and sidewalks. The grant is matched by $200,000 city funds for a $1M renovation and upgrade of the area now a parking lot. The grant will provide for extensive improvements to include a pavilion a fountain and create a cultural gathering location for what has been called the nation's first "shopping center.
